Global forest fires are a crucial issue that touches various aspects of the environment and human life. From year to year, this phenomenon is increasing, worsening air quality and threatening biodiversity. Data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) shows that more than 300 million hectares of forest are burned every year. One of the most significant impacts of forest fires is ecosystem damage. Forests are a habitat for thousands of species of flora and fauna which function to regulate climate and store carbon. When fires occur, the carbon stored in trees is released into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change. For example, forest fires in the Amazon can increase carbon dioxide concentrations, leading to global warming. The impact on humans cannot be ignored either. Forest fires often cause conflict between local residents and industries that exploit natural resources. This problem is exacerbated by the disappearance of agricultural land that can support community food security. In addition, smoke from forest fires can cause acute respiratory problems, increase the risk of lung disease, and drag on the quality of life of individuals, especially children and the elderly. From an economic perspective, forest fires affect the tourism and agricultural industries. Tourist destinations that were originally fresh and natural were destroyed due to smoke and destruction of the ecosystem. In agriculture, crop productivity decreases due to burned land and loss of soil nutrients. Economic losses can reach billions of dollars, especially in developing countries that rely heavily on natural resources. It is important to highlight the role of environmental policy in managing forest fires. Investments in monitoring technology, such as satellites and drones, can help detect fires early. In addition, public education regarding the importance of forest conservation and sustainable agricultural methods needs to be improved to reduce the practice of land burning. International initiatives, such as the Paris Agreement, emphasize the importance of global collaboration in addressing climate change and its impact on forest fires. Countries need to commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting biodiversity. Awareness of the impact of forest fires on the environment and humans must be a common focus. Through collaboration between government, society and non-governmental organizations, effective prevention and response measures can be implemented. Education and advocacy play an important role in creating a more environmentally caring and responsible society. With the right steps, improvement of this condition may be achievable.
